The Master of Science in Information Systems with a concentration in Business Analytics online program from Murray State prepares you to become an effective business and technology leader who can address important organizational problems using data and technology. The curriculum focuses on data sourcing, data organization, data management, data-driven decision-making and statistical modeling (predictive analytics, machine learning, data mining, etc.) using modern business analytics tools.

Specific coursework includes knowledge areas outlined in “A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide),” the impact of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, how ERP software integrates business functions and how to make business functions compatible with an ERP system. Additionally, students will learn software cycle, software process maturity and Agile modules as well as various software methodologies, such as object oriented, rapid development, software design, and verification and testing.

They are well-versed in state-of-the-art tools such as R, Python™, IBM SPSS Data Modeler, SAP® Predictive Analytics, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).

You will benefit from hands-on practice with analytics software while trying to address real-world problems using modern business analytics techniques. Examples include developing a detailed project management plan using SCRUM (Agile) methodology; designing and building a data warehouse using SQL Server; developing software using SaaS architecture; and using IBM-SPSS Statistics and IBM-Modeler to create, assess and implement various business analytics models.

Explores methodologies and practices used in the contemporary software development projects from the managerial and technical perspectives. From the managerial perspective, it covers software life cycle models, object-oriented methodologies, rapid development methodologies, agile modeling, software design principles and methods, verification and testing methods, and software process maturity models. On the technical side, it explores solutions that are currently available that aid in implementing these models and methodologies.

Study of the theories and techniques of computerized decision support and expert systems. The practical application of these systems to problems of business and industrial organizations is stressed. A major part of the course will be devoted to the use of appropriate decision support and expert system computer software.

This course provides the student with a comprehensive introduction to databases, the technical skills required to plan, implement and maintain a databases using appropriate software. A significant part of the course will be spent on development of Structured Query Language (SQL) queries and processes to extract (E) data from multiple sources, transform (T) data as needed and the loading (L) of the same into data warehouses (ETL).

This course covers the fundamental concepts of data analysis, and intermediary concepts such as predictive analysis and prescriptive analysis. The analytical techniques covered include visualization, regression, forecasting, simulation, optimization and risk analysis. Students get to learn and use advanced spreadsheet functions and visualization tools to analyze business data.
